Kind of Cool
Posted by: | CommentsOK, you can file this under the “Kind of Cool” tab. I just used a service called TweetCloud and it looked at all my tweets from the past year and made them into a word cloud.
It’s always interesting to see what I was thinking about.
Here’ one from all my tweets from the past month.
Boys Goofing
Posted by: | Commentsthe boys were goofing off a little on our walk today. I am SO GLAD that they get along and are best friends!
They make it fun to be their papa!!
Jack Hazard’s Friend
Posted by: | CommentsToday in KidStuf, Jack Hazard had a friend with him.
This is his friend later the same day.
Just thought you’d want to know.
Thankful
Posted by: | CommentsWow, I’m thankful. We’ve been blessed to have many people sen cards (5 from Gram alone so far), make meals, let us borrow movies, games, presents, etc…
John has defunitly felt the love. We all have felt the love.
Thanx to the many people who are blessing us in our time of uncertainty. Much appreciated!!
Kid’s Team At Church – I’m Blessed!
Posted by: | CommentsI am constantly amazed at our team of people that work with kids at McBIC. It is such a blessing to work with so many creative and wonderful people.
We have an amazing group of people who work with the kids of all ages. Take our Nursery & Preschoolers. They are so blessed to have so many caring and loving adults who work with them, who comfort them, who teach them, who play with them, who love them. It’s always amazing to walk by these classrooms and see adults down on their knees, reading a book to these kids. It’s awesome!!
Then we have our team of people (UpStreet & KidStuf) that work with the Elementary Aged children. They do an incredible job and I’m always amazed at what they are willing to do. We have so many adults that are more concerned about kids and families hearing about Jesus’s love for them, than they are about how they look. Our teams of actors, storytellers, small group leaders, shepherds, worship leaders, and behind the scene people just rock.
Thanx for making it such a blessing to come to church every week!!
Here’s a brief clip from today in KidStuf.
Good Day Today
Posted by: | CommentsToday was a pretty good day for our family. beth and John stayed home from church since John was a little tired yesterday. I think the extra rest yesterday really help as he seemed in good spirits today.
Beth and the boys got to go outside this afternoon. It was such a nice day out. Josiah rode his bike, beth walked, and John was in his wheelchair. They even met some friends and John got his cast signed in their half-hour outside.
We have been so blessed by friends since John surgery. That’s not to say we weren’t blessed before! But our friends have blessed us with food, gifts, movies to watch, games to play, puzzles to put together, cards to read, etc… We have been truly blessed! Thank-you!
Good Day of Rest…Kind of…
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s saturday and we had nothing on the calendar – YEAH!!! That doesn’t happen very often.
Everyone slept in this morning – except me that is, I still woke up around 5am. BUT, I didn’t get up till 6:30 or so and got some TV watching in!
The boys had one main goal on waking up today – to play the wii – in particular, to play the new game that Gram gave John two days ago – SPORT RESORT. They are loving it. They also got to play a few other games today too. As a matter of fact, this is something that Beth and I are going to need to discuss. It seems the boys have been spending a lot more time on front of the tv the past few days.
John seemed more tired today and actually took a good 1 1/2 hour nap this afternoon. Not sure what it was about, but he needed it. We are hoping that he will be able to sleep tonight!
For me, today was partially filled with getting some props/things ready for KidStuf tomorrow. We have a few food items that I needed to make and a few other things too. It’s gonna be a fun day tomorrow.
We also had a few friends stop by, give us a call, etc… Some of them went way out of their way and blessed us with food, videos to watch, games to play, etc… We have way cool friends and family who are such a blessing to us! Thanx all!!!
Fresh Air
Posted by: | Comments
It was great, we were able to take John outside today. YEAH! He is feeling much better and is getting more and more strength back. He’s been playing some wii games, watching movies, getting some homework done and just hanging out. He’s such a great kid!
We were able to take John outside today. It was great. He got to ride his wheelchair down the ramps, get some fresh air, and ride his chair with some speed. He loved that part. He got to turn his wheelchair up to the highest speed and ride down the alley.
Tomorrow, we hope to get outside again!
Home All Day
Posted by: | CommentsWell, I’ve been home all day. John has been doing well and only experiencing a minimal amount of pain. And Tylenol has been able to take care of that – yeah! We played a few wii games and watched a few movies.
I am VERY thankful that I have a laptop. I was able to get a ton of work done today!!
John is still not able to put any weight on his legs, so he needs my help to get in and out of the wheelchair. Beth isn’t quite strong enough for our 5th grader.
Tomorrow looks to be another day like today – working from home.
John’s Surgery
Posted by: | CommentsJohn had his surgery today. We knew he was to have this surgery since July, but it still seemed to sneak up on us. Probably because there was questions about insurance that didn’t get answered until this past Friday.
He was first on the list to have surgery this morning, so we had to get up nice and early. And then the waiting began.
First, we had to wait in the waiting room. Then, we had to wait in the pre-op room. It seems they didn’t have the implant ready, so they had to get it, then sterilize it (40 minutes). In the mean-time, we had to find something to do, so Beth decided to spend some time with John.

Of course, our doctor had to wait too.

He’s a crazy guy and has a great rapport with kids – always joking and making them feel comfortable. Soon, it was time for the surgery.
The surgery took about 2 hours total. They worked on both his legs/feet. They extended his right tendon (cut it and sewed it back together). This is so he can have more flexibility in his foot and walk with a heel-toe strike.
In his left ankle, they placed a metal shim. His foot was turning and the bones were not aligned properly. This shim should hopefully help. It won’t allow his foot to get any worse.
So, John came home with a cast on both legs. He is not to put any weight on either leg for a few days and then only on his right leg. His left, he is not to use at all for many weeks while the tendon heals. We want to be super cautious that he doesn’t blow it out.
It was great when John started feeling better in the recovery room. here he is goofing around.

John did feel a little nauseous when we returned home. He is feeling much better now. our biggest challenge right now is getting him from the bed or couch into the wheelchair. And then from the wheelchair back to the bed/potty/sofa, etc… He’s not a light little kid anymore and he’s not supposed to put any weight on his feet. you can pray for my back the next few days!
Speaking of wheelchairs, we found out Friday that our insurance would not cover the left foot surgery with the implant. this also means they probably would not cover a wheelchair. Not a good thing to find out just a few days before the surgery. We had to take a check over to the doctors office for the implant and for the doctors. Can you say bye-bye emergency money! (Thanx Dave Ramsey for that tip!!) That also means they wouldn’t cover any ramps or things like that. It made for a busy few days of preparations and planning.
Beth went a got a wheelchair from United cerebral palsy yesterday – yeah! They were great and even gave us a folding ramp. Double – yeah! They were such a blessing to us.
Then, Beth’s cousin told us that he would get us a powered wheelchair (he works for a wheelchair company). He said their company takes care of family. Triple YEAH!!! Can you say WOW! They delivered it this afternoon.
Can you see how big John’s smile is in this picture of him in the powered wheelchair!
He is to rest. So it looks like lots of movies for us! The plan is to get the cast off his left leg (implant) in about 3 weeks, and the other off in about 6 weeks.
It was such a blessing to get many emails and facebook updates of people praying for us, remembering us, putting band-aids on themselves to remember to pray for us throughout the day, etc… We felt very covered in prayer and appreciate it all so much!!
Thanx!
