Josiah’s Prayer

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Josiah touched my heart last night as he prayed.

Yesterday afternoon/early evening was a movie night for the boys and myself (you could probably call me a TV junkie).

Last night we watched the Cosby Show – Season 1, DVD 1. One of the episodes we watched was episode # 8 – A Shirt Story.

This is the episode where Theo buys, then has to return a designer shirt to impress a girl. Then Denise (his sister) offers to make him a shirt that looks just like the designer shirt.

Of course, it turns out a flop. And he hates it and he is embarrassed to wear it. That is, until his date sees it and thinks that it’s super cool. The, he’s excited to have it.

Well, that night, in his prayer, Josiah thanked God for the hope that he saw on TV as he can believe that something good can come out of something bad.

You see, HOPE is the virtue we have been studying at our church this past month (in UpStreet & KidStuf). It makes my heart feel good when one of our boys can make the connections from what they are learning at church and in the Bible to their real world.

I love learning from my kids!!

Red Truck

Posted by: | Comments (2)

Well, I’m going to visit the red truck today. And, it’ll probably be the last time I see it. It’s going up for auction on Saturday, and I’m not going to be able to be at the sale. Not that my wife would really love for me to get it anyway. And I probably couldn’t spend more than $150 on it either.

This truck is a 1978 Ford F350. And it reminds me a lot of my favorite TV show growing up – Emergency! Emergency 51.

Emergency was my favorite TV show for a number of years. You remember, that’s where Johnny & Roy were there to save the day. Whether it be saving someone from a snake bite, to being trapped in a wrecked car or a burning house. Johnny & Roy were there to save the day.

Just look at the truck they drove!

I mean, sure, their rescue truck was a 1972 Dodge D300, but they sure do look similar. At least they remind me of each other. i would even paint the wheel rims red!

Anyway, today I’ am going to help the family get things ready for their auction. In between taking loads of stuff from the house, I might have to sneak aside and snap a few last pictures of the red truck.

Oh yeah, if anyone is at the auction on Saturday, and the truck isn’t selling, and you want to bid on it for me, go ahead. I can’t promise what my wife will do or say, but I’m pretty sure she would only hit me and not you. Pretty sure anyway.

Game Night

Tonight was game night in our house. We rarely play OPERATION. Both boys jump like crazy whenever the game buzzes – it’s actually kind of funny to watch.

Oh yeah – I won!!!

Baseball Practice

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Well, today was Josiah’s 2nd baseball practice of the season (and my first). it’s always amazing to see how these kids develop over the years.

This year, I’m one of the “extra” coaches. Since I know I can’t make all of the practices or games, i didn’t want to have a major role on the team this year. I’ll be there to help out when I can, but I can’t officially help out in the games.

I think this will allow me to have an interesting perspective. Just by being able to observe a little today, I was able to observe the seriousness of some parents. I’m always fascinated by the parents that take these games and sports so seriously. I mean, we are talking about 7 & 8 year olds here. But some of these parents, and a few kids, are super serious. They have ALL of the equipment, all of the best brand names, and so on. It always amazes me.

But then, I always have to look at myself too. i know I can also take things too seriously, or have too high of expectations, or …., or….

I mean I remember what I was able to do in Little League. But oh yeah, I forgot, these kids aren’t even in the Little League yet. We’re still in the developmental league.

Perspective…Perspective…

Red Robin

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Tonight was my night for twisting balloons at Red Robin. I twist balloons at the Red Robin on the Carlisle Pike (Mechanicsburg), the first and third Tuesdays.

I really like Red Robin. I like the food. I like the atmosphere. I like the people. Those are some of the main reasons I like twisting balloons there.

Tonight, the monkey was the hit of the night. Here’s a picture from the first one tonight that got a monkey.

What usually happens whenever I make something either big, unusual, or super cute, I end up making a ton of them. Since i made this monkey towards the end of the evening, I didn’t have to make too many of them.

It was a fun night tonight. I’ll be back in two weeks!!

Viking Helmets??

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Yep, that’s right… today I will be thinking of viking helmets as I write / re-write a script we will be using tomorrow night filming a few short clips. We have 3 or 4 vikings that will be running around our church tomorrow night – sounds fun doesn’t it!!

If you and your kids want to be some of the “extras” in the video clips, drop me a line. We are still looking for a few people to help out.

When can you see this video? That’s pretty simple. If you help us out in either the children’s ministry or youth ministry here at McBIC, we’ll be debuting the videos at our volunteer appreciation event on Friday, March 27.

OVATIONS

I hope to see you next Friday!!

HOPE

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

In March, we have been looking at the virtue of HOPE. It’s been a great reminder for me (and other adults too). To remember that something good can come out of something bad.

Here are some of the bottom lines that we have learned this month.

For March 1st, we learned…

For March 8th, we learned…

For March 15th, we learned…

For March 22, we will be learning…

Great reminders!!!

Busy Day Today

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Wow, today was a busy day. This picture from a few years ago (Mexico 2006) reminds me of something I was doing today.

Today started with starting at church a little before 6am. It was a good day at church. i’ll blog more on that later.

I was at church till 12:30, which is actually the earliest I have left church in many months.

Next, it was time for a little informal church softball practice from 2-3pm.

After that, I was pretty wiped out, so I ‘vegged’ for about an hour.

Then it was time to paint our bathroom ceiling. I scrubber it and primed it yesterday, but I needed to start the painting today.

Well, after two coats of paint, that’s done. And I’m even more tired!!

I’m sitting here, typing this, watching a little tv, and waiting for a load of towels to be done in the washer so I can switch them to the dryer.

It’s been a busy day. And oh, yeah, Beth and the boys have been away for the weekend. That’s why there was a rush to get these projects done. i even finished a small, special surprise project too. i can’t reveal what it was, because I don’t want Beth to read about it here first!

Beth & Boys Going Away

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off

Beth and the boys are going away today thru Monday afternoon. They are heading to her mothers and the boys are super-excited to play with their cousins!

I’m super exited too, but for different reasons. We have recently discovered that Josiah has mold allergies. Add this to the fact that last summer (or sometime in the past) we had a leak in roof over our bathroom and our ceiling has a small stain on it. Thinking that this might also have a little mold associated with it (it is the bathroom where there is tons of moisture), I am going to work on it this weekend. Here’s my game plan:

Today:

  • Clean the bathroom ceiling

    - sponge it with a bleach solution

    - then later wash it with a borax solution

    - set the fans on it

Tomorrow:

  • Stain Blocker Primer (super early am – like 5am, before church)
  • Painting coat # 1
  • Painting coat # 2

As I said, I am excited to be able to get this project done, and since this is our main bathroom, and our only shower, it will be easier with fewer people here. I will miss everyone, but I’m hoping to get this work done!

We’ll see how I do!
